· We discussed taking steps to build a framework based on skills and how this might provide a common language for discussing
workforce skills in Extension programming.
· We reviewed the efforts of the 4H Workforce Prep meeting that occurred on March 7, 2007
. Outlined literature review and process used to identify six primary skills.
. See “OSU Extension and Skills for Success in the Knowledge Economy” file on basecamp.
· Discussed the role/addition of health aspects (personal well-being) and entrepreneurial thinking into the skills.
· Bill Harris helped lead a discussion on starting with a broader goal, followed by sub-goals, and possibly an inventory of
programs.
Rough-Draft Ideas:
Broad Goal: Extension assists Ohioans to be successfully employed.
Sub-Goals:
1) Knowledge and Awareness
2) Skill Development
3) Employability
4) Job retention for individuals (i.e. work/family balance)
5) Lifelong learning
· Discussed a proposed framework for Employment Success
. Outlined skills and audiences
. Suggestion that the vocational or content programs need to be added. They are important aspects of Extension and may fit
within this framework for employment success.
. Suggestion to change “Skills” to “Employability Concepts”
. Noted the importance of characterizing this framework/our programs in KASA approach since our programs have differing impacts
on Employment Success.
Next Steps
· Use writeboards to continue working on broad goal and skills framework.
· Rick McCann/Dave Boulay will work with URS to identify programs/efforts that may fit within the framework.
