Support the Knowledge Economy Initiative

Last modified 2006-12-18 11:50

Extension's Knowledge Economy Initiative involves the use of knowledge (compared to labor or equipment) and inovation to produce economic benefits.

Knowledge Economy refers to connecting various high-technology businesses with Ohio’s educational and research institutions in an effort to improve the state’s economy.

Economists have always known that the continued evolution in technology and knowledge creation have driven economic change and growth.  OSU Extension’s Knowledge Economy Initiative recognizes that these changes have accelerated due to a number of related factors including:

    • Exponential increases in the amount of knowledge and information that is being produced in both the public and private sectors
    • Rapid growth in technological innovation
    • Large changes in how the applications of technology by businesses change the structure of the economy
    • Increased globalization of labor and consumer products

By providing connections among economic development professionals, K-12 schools, communities, colleges, and universities, OSU Extension has the capability to help the state of Ohio engage more fully in the Knowledge Economy, community by community.

The Ohio State University is also doing things to meet this challenge.

    • Potential research opportunities
    • Academic activities
    • Preparing students
    • Student and faculty involvement
    • Collaborative opportunities

YOU are a vital part of this initiative.
