Knowledge Economy - School Success
Meeting Minutes – July 18, 2007
Discussion Items:
-Update on April action items:
-Rick sent out general invitation on KE involvement to all-extension
-announcement sent out on how to report KE activities in URS
-links added from the OSU Extension website to the KE website
-list of employability concepts was received for our review
-discussed with leaders…KE concept will be promoted at annual conference; 1) in streaming video at a poster, 2) as part of administrative update by ADs, and 3)as part of a general session at annual conference
-'charge' document was posted on basecamp
-inventory of KE-SS programs continues to be generated
-All three teams are compiling an inventory. ‘Employment’ is using URS data. ‘Entrepreneur’ is creating a survey. Reasons: 1) to see what KE programs exist, 2) to promote and educate individuals and administration on what we are currently doing that is KE related, and 3) to determine what is needed.
-How do we (KE-SS) gather the program information for inclusion in our list? Kathy suggested we promote the lists that exist to stimulate others to want their programs to be added, perhaps at annual conference. Also, Rick suggested we send an invitation out asking for the information.
-Blended E-learning is a possible opportunity to promote our work. Maybe we can use the class to disseminate the information as an assignment, and also ask for programs to be added to our inventory list.
-How do we encourage the late adopters of technology to become early adopters, thus increasing KE ability within OSU? Technology training could be a possible task or activity for KE-SS team. Not only the ‘how to’ but the ‘why use it’ should be addressed, ex. “Camtasia” in-service to learn how to set powerpoints to music or narration…see ABE.osu.edu, and link to “introduction to ABE Center”
-Joe suggested that we ask current KE program leaders how we can help them, perhaps as an advocate or resource.
Action Items:
-Rick will send out another announcement about KE reporting in URS (and in December)
-Rick will send KE-SS team a copy of the Framework for Employment Success
-Dana and Rick will send an invitation out to KE participants asking them to list SS programs in the inventory.
-Rick will talk to Jerry about using the Blended E-learning class to enhance the inventory.
-Team members will make contact with KE-SS program leaders to offer help:
-Dana will contact Teresa Ferrari about after school programs
-Joe will contact Brian Raison about College 101
-Dana will discuss with Nancy Hudson about money management programs
-Kathy will e-mail information on Know How to Go to Rick for the inventory

-Discuss ‘framework’ example, the value, purpose, and should we create the same?
-Explore technology education, to receive training as a team and possibly provide to others
-Review ‘charge’ document and determine our purpose and direction
-Consider our involvement in promoting KE ideas at annual conference (3 pronged approach)
